Inspired by the Las Culturistas Culture Awards' celebration of iconic, absurd, and deeply personal food moments, this burger is an homage to the legendary 'I heard the burger is really good here' experience—California-style. Juicy, perfectly seasoned beef, sharp cheddar, creamy avocado, and a tangy special sauce come together on a toasted brioche bun, making each bite worthy of a standing ovation. It’s a playful nod to both high-low food culture and the universal thrill of a truly great burger. Perfect for a small crowd or your own personal awards night at home!
Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 6 oz each). Gently shape into thick patties, making a slight dimple in the center of each. Season generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Preheat a cast iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat. Add olive oil. When hot, add burger patties. Cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes, then flip. Top each with cheddar cheese. Cover the pan and cook another 2-3 minutes for medium-rare to medium, or until desired doneness. Remove from heat and rest patties briefly.
  3. While burgers cook, slice buns and spread softened butter on cut sides. Toast buns, cut side down, on a separate skillet or under broiler until golden brown.
  4. Mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and ketchup in a small bowl to create a 'special sauce.'
  5. To assemble: Spread special sauce on both top and bottom buns. Layer arugula on bottom bun, then place burger patty with melted cheese. Add tomato, avocado, and red onion slices. Finish with pickle chips and top bun.
  6. Serve immediately with extra pickles on the side.
