This Omani-Spiced Falafel Bowl is an aromatic, colorful dinner inspired by the bold flavors of the Arabian Peninsula. Fragrant basmati rice forms the base, layered with deeply caramelized onions infused with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and a citrusy hit of dried lime. Plump golden raisins add bursts of natural sweetness, perfectly complementing crispy, protein-rich falafels. Finished with a shower of fresh parsley and bright lemon, this bowl delivers a symphony of textures and flavors—earthy, sweet, tangy, and savory. It's simple, vibrant, and a delicious way to enjoy falafels with a Middle Eastern twist.
Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring often, until deep golden and caramelized, about 12-15 minutes.
  2. Stir in cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and dried lime powder. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add golden raisins and cook for another minute until plump. Remove onions and raisins from skillet and set aside.
  3. Wipe the skillet clean and add remaining 1 tbsp olive oil. Warm falafel balls in the skillet, turning gently to heat through and crisp up, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. To serve, divide cooked rice among 4 bowls. Top with spiced caramelized onions and raisins, then arrange warm falafels on top.
  5. Garnish with fresh parsley and a squeeze of lemon. Serve with extra lemon wedges on the side.
