Instructions
Rinse the rice and moong dal together under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
In a medium pot, heat the oil and ghee/butter over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for 20 seconds.
Add the diced carrot, zucchini, sweet potato, and frozen peas. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
Sprinkle in the turmeric, ground coriander, and ground cumin. Stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the rinsed rice and moong dal to the pot. Mix everything well.
Pour in 2 cups of water and add the salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover tightly.
Simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice, dal, and vegetables are very soft and the mixture is porridge-like. Stir occasionally and add a splash more water if needed for desired consistency.
For adults, taste and adjust salt. For babies, cool a portion and mash further if needed.
Serve warm, garnished with cilantro and a squeeze of lemon for adults. Divide into bowls and enjoy!
